How to Read Poker Playing Styles

Learning to recognize playing styles is a very important part of playing poker, especially if you want to play professionally. Most poker players play with a set strategy that they use to guide them through each game and reach success. If you want to win consistently then you will need to be able to read poker styles. The first step in reading a player’s poker style is observing their actions. The poker face was developed for this reason, to prevent opponents form reading your facial expressions. However, actions inevitably speak louder than facial expressions, so make sure you pay close attention to their moves.

If a player consistently plays every hand, then you can deduce that they are an aggressive poker player. Aggressive players will not fold and will usually call or raise everything you throw at them. This can work to your advantage if you have a good hand, because you can extort a lot of chips out of them. If a player is folding quite often then they are probably a tight player, which means they will be much more cautious. If you play your hand right it is possible to get these players to fold quite easily, unless of course they have a good hand, in which case they will play it through until the end. The there are the smart players that will use a mix of both strategies. These players are very difficult to play against, so your goal should be to become one of the these players.
